사업개요

Saemangeum Development Project is a national project to build a global city as a frontrunner of green growth. It will create 283㎢ of reclaimed land and a lake as large as 118㎢ by constructing the world's longest 33.9km sea dike connecting Gunsan and Buan on the west coast of Korea. Saemangeum will emerge as an economic hub of Northeast Asia, a location of choice for business, industry, and tourism.

  • Location: Central West coast of South Korea (Buan-gun, Gimje-si, Gunsan-si in Jeollabuk-do)

  • Area: 401㎢

  • Length of the sea dike : 33.9km (World's Longest)

History
  • 1989-11 : Establishment of a conceptual plan (farmland 100%)
  • 1991-11 : Construction of the sea dike began
  • 2006-04 : Final closure of the sea dike
  • 2007-04 : Establishment of the land development plan (farmland 72%, non-farmland 28%)
  • 2007-12 : Enactment of the Special Act on Promotion of the Saemangeum Project
  • 2008-10 : Revision of the land development plan (farmland 30%, non-farmland 70%)
  • 2008-12 : The Executive Office of Saemangeum Development Planning established
  • 2009-01 : The Saemangeum Development Committee launched
  • 2010-01 : The Comprehensive plan on Saemangeum development formulated
  • 2010-04 : The Saemangeum sea dike completed
  • 2010-08 : Recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's longest sea dike (33.9km)
  • 2011-03 : Master plan released
